Niagra Falls

So today we had a tour out to Niagra falls booked.

We got picked up from just outside the hotel by our tour guide John. He was like a non camp, Canadian, John Waters. We got on the packed bus and drove out towards the falls.

Actually we were the first to be picked up, the bus was eventually packed.
The falls is actually a couple of hours drive from Toronto as you have to go around Lake Ontario, and John provided us with a stream of interesting facts about Toronto and Lake Ontario, some of which I've listed here.

We took a helicopter flight over the falls. I have some video of the flight, but it's reasonably long and I really don't have the network to be able to upload it now.

Update - video is here:
I'd watch it on mute so that you don't have to listen to 9 minutes of panicked screaming, er, I mean, rotor noise.

We then stopped for lunch, which was in a hotel restaurant overlooking the falls.

A shot from the balcony of the restaurant.
The park below the balcony.

Which was followed by a boat ride to the base of the falls:

Ken has joined the green cult.
Death to the filthy blue cult.

We moved to the top of the falls for more sightseeing:
Rainbow!

Here is a video I took of another group doing the boat ride from above the falls:

We then stopped by the small town of Niagra-by-the-lake which is like Canada's Healesville.

A rack of chocolates that would simultaneously ddelight Hamish, Kieran, and Caroline.
and a winery that specialises in ice wine for a tasting. (verdict: delicious but also likely to be confiscated as a weapon of terror)

That wrapped up our tour and after being dropped back at the hotel we decided to try and do low key dinner take 2.

We had walked past a sushi restaurant the night before that looked a bit tiny, and did take away, so we decided it would probably be perfect for our requirements.

It turns out, it isn't that tiny, you just get individual little dining rooms:

Sushi platter B

scallop, sea urchin, and fried lobster roll.

sushi pizza

and now it's late, and I'm tired (and full of sushi).

  1. Falls look amazing. Uncertain how to take the caption about the chocolates. If it helps I did squee before reading it.
