Stuff I've Seen - Fukuoka part 1

You can't read it in the photo because of camera refresh frequency and what not,
but my train to Fukuoka was delayed by 5 minutes, because the train in front of it was delayed half an hour.
A national day of mourning was likely declared as a result of this.

A pyramid shaped statue commemorating a local festival.

Fukuoka. It looks a bit drab here, but I found it to have way more character than Nagano.

Underground just outside of Tenjin Station, one of the major stops on the subway.

This building has a sort of stepped aztec temple thing going on on one side, with trees planted on each level.

The river through town

A shopping arcade
There is an annual festival that involves building giant float type things and then having a race where teams carry around the floats and run with them from one temple to another. One of the shops had a float inside it towards the back.

Each float has a traditional side

and a less traditional side.

These mouths were set up at some temples for a local festival called "Makugaijinbendoba".
It is a very annoying festival.

Another one of the floats

Ye Olde float that is only brought out on special occassions

Bird statues at the shrine
