other areas of Tokyo

The next day I decided to head a bit further afield, and went to some other areas.

Roppongi hills, although the observatory/museum thing is closed for renovations at the moment.
They did have a nice flower display setup though.
 Akihabara, the anime/electronics district

This billboard drew my eye for some reason.

Same billboard. Different angle.

On my way to check into a new hotel I spied this guy through a side street.

An underground shopping mall near Shinjuku station.

New hotel room

the view out the window

which includes this

which looks more like this after dark.

Also visible from the hotel room, our friend from before.
I then went to check out Shibuyu crossing.
Busiest intersection in the world my ass...
Japan is obsessed by that meme dog for some reason.
Wow!

such mural

you can even buy them in shops.
In Tokyo proper (near the Tokyo station at any rate), I saw some more cherry blossoms.
Emma is going to have to hurry her ass up if she wants to see any. It currently looks like it has been snowing cherry blossoms around here, and if a gust of wind picks up you get a flurry of petals from the trees.

That evening I took a stroll down what I refer to as meat alley.

The next morning, I headed out to Yasukuni Shrine.
On the way there was the Tokyo version of the Melbourne show.

The Shrine gates

The sumo arena

Sumo warm-up

Sumo wrestling.
On the way back I stopped at a department store and took a look at the TVs and DVDs.

Massive 4K TVs here seem insanely cheap. Maybe the prices dropped back home while I wasn't looking.

DVDs and Blurays on the other hand are ridiculously expensive. $50+ a film expensive.

On the other hand, at least the latest foreign TV is available.
