We decided to have Sushi for lunch.
The food was good, and the fish was quality, but this feels like
the most expensive sushi (for what you get) that I've ever had
(and I've eaten high end sushi in Australia)
Fig, and scallop with salsa |
Sashimi, red snapper and tuna. |
conger eel soup |
sushi, the usual suspects. |
Warabe Mochi |
Steve Jobs' favourite Sushi restaurant. It figures. it's expensive, stylish in a minimalist kind of fashion and you can get the same or more substance for half the price elsewhere. |
The ryokan's version of the pillow mint |
Matcha and Red Bean mochi |
"Autumn" rice crackers |
I'm still not sure what flavour they're supposed to be. |
plum liqueur (probably) |
Dinner at the Ryokan.
potato tofu with uni |
Some kyoto style sushi, plus a sea snail, and some other guff. |
sashimi |
with little vegetable "leaves" in autumn colours |
grilled fish. don't ask me, the menu was in some other language. |
pickled things |
and conger eel soup |
Shabu shabu |
dipping sauces |
Emma was concerned about the boiling water on the table that was prevented from being in our laps, scalding our dudes, by a fairly thin looking piece of paper |
Don't worry, the paper is safely contained... by a wicker basket. |
miso soup, rice |
pickled things |
tea |
Persimmon |

These are black soybeans. I think they've been boiled in sugar and then dried out. |
They're soft, and very sweet. And delicious. And about $150 a kilo |
yuzu liqueur |
Mayonnaise rice crackers |
Shrimp rice crackers |
Seasoned dried seaweed |
also plum? liqueur |
nutmeg? liqueur |
Do not drink this much booze in a hot tub. The time travel is a lie. |
Not pictured: squirrel sake. (it had a picture of a squirrel on the bottle). It was awful.
Breakfast buffet. |
For grilling fish. |
Fish. |
Grill! |
GRILL! |
the underneath fish. |
I hope your coffee will provide you with a comfortable elegant time. |
The convenience store sold "party ice" |
Including this cup about the size of a large latte; in case, I dunno, you're partying by yourself? |
Okonomiyaki |
Emma wouldn't let me eat octopus balls in the cafe at the aquarium. Apparently it would be in poor taste. |
bland mochi on a stick. |
Sukiyaki in Osaka
Kind of like potato salad. I like the gradient of colour in the little tofu leaf. |
beer |
raw egg for dipping |
raw ingredients for cooking. |
A nice japanese lady would occasionally enter the room and cook more food for us. |
the dipping sauce after two rounds of meat. |
onion and tofu |
The best Sukiyaki I've had, by a fairly significant margin. |
Soba (buckwheat) ice cream |
cheese wrapped in salami |
black soybeans of a different kind |
wine soaked figs in chocolate |
you can read |
The pancake guy gave us these to take away with us. |
Matcha! |
Breakfast buffet |
Milk jam, and strawberry jam. The milk jam tastes kind of like condensed milk. |
