Takayama

Takayama: home of the big chair.

Raccoon brand hand sanitiser

Shrine to the god of fire prevention

The river that separates old town and, er, less old town.

The red light district?

Takayama has a lot of "snack" bars. Bars with names like
Cat snack, night snack, lips snack, sexy snack, and 3 hookers at once snack.

Private onsen with a view out over the city to the mountains beyond.
The perfect spot to flash your junk at the people in the hotel two streets over.

Takayama morning market

Right next to the river

Don't make me stab a bitch.
We then went on a walking tour of local historic landmarks through the nearby hills:

There are shrines

And giant bells everywhere

I think the bells were traditionally used as a sort of bear early warning system.

Stone Dog

Yo dawg! I heard you liked maps...

I'm not sure I'd have my vegetable garden abut right against a cemetery,
especially downslope.

Many Shrines

More Bear-ly warning system

Shrines!

So many bears...

A shrine to the god of please don't let bears eat me.

Did I mention there were shrines?

There were no signs warning about bears this deep into the forest.
I assume the guy whose job it was to put them up got eaten by bears.

The graveyard is full of both warning signs for bear attacks
and the victims of bear attacks.

The shrines all have cool little bridges that are gated off so you can't cross them.

This sign appears to indicate, no shoes and no cats.

I was beginning to miss having seen a shrine.

This is part of what remains of Takayama castle.

This probably the most substantial part of what remains.

The view from the top.

A statue of a Japanese guy that looks like Stalin

The Ryokan we stayed at.
