After a brief stop in Tokyo it was off to Kanazawa
Back to mere Green Car accommodations. |
The ground outside the train very quickly went from this... |
back to this |
despite the temperature being above zero, there was still some snow |
I went to Omichi market |
To see what seasonal fish was available |
There were a variety of food themed banners all over the place |
My favourite for quite some time was the angry crab soup |
that was however, until I discovered "the wasabi has been poisoned" panda |
The snow here varied wildly in quality, possibly because it was at a temperature where snow almost shouldn't be happening.
A lot of the time it was little balls of snow, travelling at decent speed rather than floating down, as though it couldn't quite be bothered becoming hail, and gave up at the last minute. It felt like being pelted with extremely cold rain, but was still clearly snow. I dunno, maybe it counts as sleet.
Ironically, during this terrible seeming snow weather, I also saw the best snow of the trip.
Huge slowly floating flakes |
I decided to check out Kenroku-en again. It is supposedly one of three perfect gardens that is interesting in all four seasons.
just be careful of the local wildlife |
It's pretty in winter |
at least certain parts are |
but I much prefer it the other times I've been here |
Mr turtle! Noooooooo... |
The castle across the way |
The partially frozen moat. |
Some frozen shrines. |
