Stuff I've Seen - Nagasaki

The train to Nagasaki feels like it is slightly older than most of the other Shinkansen style train I've been on.

The green car is wood paneled with leather seats, and feels older too.

On the other hand, the green car is just behind the drivers compartment, separated by frosted glass.

Which becomes transparent while the train is in motion so you can see out the front window,

There's a raised area just outside the station.

Which has some information about the atomic bomb blast.

Nagasaki at night.

There is a local garden that used to be where Thomas Blake Glover lived.
(a merchant that brought a lot of Japan's early mechanization from the West, including the first steam locomotive)

Saruku-chan is the mascot of a tourism campaign for walking around historical sites in Nagasaki.

Like Disneyland, Glover Gardens has it's own currency. Here I am with 610 Gaijin-bucks.

Ye olde faucet. God bless Japanese miniaturization that has given us modern day taps.

A pond in the gardens.

Down the garden path.

As an old school right wing capitalist, Glover had a large collection of Tiki torches.

Inside one of the old houses.

A statue of Puccinni

Tamaki Miura, an Opera Singer who played Madame Butterfly.

Fountain with coins

The Glover house.

A view of Megami Ohashi, a famous Nagasaki landmark. It's longest cable bridge in Kyushu or something.

The Kirin beer mascot is based on these particular statues.

There's a performing art center on the grounds. It contains some parade floats that are used in a local festival.

For some reason when I saw the statue I thought 'Mark Twain'.... that's weird

  2. Nah, twain looks similar, but is perpetually grumpy.
