Today involved going from Otaru -> Sapporo -> Hakodate -> Omiya -> Nagano on 4 trains.
Back to Sapporo along the coast
We decided to go Green car (bigger more comfortable seats) where possible given that we were on trains for almost 10 hours, however when we looked at it, the Gran class wasn't that much more than Green car seats, and came with a meal, so we also went Gran class where it existed (it only exists on two lines throughout Japan, and we just happened to be travelling on both of them today)
For most of the first trip, we were the only people in Gran Class.
It was snowy outside for much of the trip
The tracks at stations have a sprinkler system to melt the snow off the tracks
