Hakodate 2

We went down to the brickworks (I visited last time). This is the bell outside.

And a little shrine in between the two buildings.

Floating on the water.

Welcome to Hokkaido

A statue of a guy in a boat (probably) along the water front.

There were a few statues lining a street that led from there to the old public hall.

A very prim and snow covered woman.

Probably the town founders or something.

This is a shrine to angry spirits that are thought to reside in the area. Legend says that if you hold up the right sort of glass you can see the spirits through it.

Aforementioned old town hall

A shrine in the same neighbourhood

With a smaller shrine next to it

A monument to a destroyed clan fortress

Hakodate viewed from the top of a nearby mountain

Once it had started snowing

The view from the ropeway car on the way up (this is the ropeway I decided not to go up last time as it was too snowy to see anything)

More views from the observatory

The base station of the ropeway

More statues

Hakodate's premier french clown themed hamburger chain.
The sell hamburgers, and angels' chatter.

Hakodate tower

My new favourite mascot.
Momoiji-chan is a deer with a gun.
He rides a bear, has a squirrel pal, and hunts hunters.

Fort Goryokaku

He seems important. Probably built the place or something.

There's actually an entire 15 part story about the construction of the fort.

Each part has its own diorama

And a model of the fort, in case you're too lazy to look out the window behind the model at the actual fort.

As it is Japan, and it's winter, the fort is illuminated.

City lights

Fort lights

The tower has an area at the base

Full of illuminations

A Japanese woman was taking her sweet time getting her photo taken while we were waiting to take snaps of this

Mocking her by getting Emma to copy her poses probably works better off she hasn't wandered off 5 minutes ago

We went and saw an illuminated road at the top of a hill, sort of near the old town hall

It was very illuminated

It stretched so far back we almost could have just looked at it from the train station

It stopped a few blocks short though, so eventually we got back to the station

Heading back to the shinkansen station as tomorrow it was time to head to Sapporo
